Welcome to the West Woods Recess Expansion Project Website! Parents that are a part of the West Woods Recess Expansion Committee developed this website to educate and promote the project to help make it a reality. While this website is not an official website of the Farmington Public Schools, it is a place to learn more about the project, catch the vision and find out how to get involved. Enjoy!

  • Supports social,
  • emotional, cognitive, and physical development,
  • Improves academic achievement and attention in the classroom,
  • Reduces anxiety and depression and promotes positive mental health,
  • Reduces obesity Improves concentration, memory, and classroom behavior.

working together

Imagine a recess environment where all fifth and six grade students of West Woods Upper Elementary School have the necessary space and increased opportunities for physical activity during recess. That's the dream the West Woods Playground Expansion Project, a joint endeavor working with the Town of Farmington, the Farmington Board of Education, the Administrators and Staff of West Woods Upper Elementary School, and parents.   The main recess area is generally limited to a blacktop surface, this expansion plan will help make the recess area more consistent with other similar Farmington Valley schools, including 5th and 6th grade schools.  With your help today, we can turn this dream into a reality.  To learn more about the existing space and the proposal, please see the Plan and please consider donating.

There is substantial evidence that physical activity can help improve academic achievement, including grades and standardized test scores.

Physical activity helps youth improve their concentration, memory and classroom behavior.
